Drop-in sinks, also referred to as top-mounted sinks, make use of a simplified method of installation that seals the cutout of the sink. It eliminates the overhand in the work surface, which is located between the inner walls seen in undermount sink basins and the sink cutout.
The overhang can gather food particles, which can lead to trapping of residual bacteria and chemicals. Since a drop-in sink does not have this overhang, this makes cleaning the sink itself easier – all working areas of the sink are accessible and visible.
The basin of drop-in sinks come in different sizes and depths, making it fit for a wide variety of applications. These sinks often come with a space-saving corner drain, which moves the plumbing to the back of the supporting cabinet. This maximizes usable storage.
